High Prairie Wind "Farm"

Updated: Oct 6, 2021

This group initially came together because of the "High Prairie Wind Farm." Before we go further, it is important to note that this not a "farm." This is an industrial wind complex, a power plant. The definition of a "farm" says, " an area of land and its buildings used for growing crops and rearing animals, typically under the control of one owner or manager." The definition of "agriculture" states, "the science or practice of farming, including cultivation of the soil for the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide food, wool, and other products." Neither of these definitions include anything regarding "wind," "electricity," "power," etc.

The High Prairie Wind Farm (HPWF) is a 400 MW wind power project that is currently expected to be 175 wind turbines. These turbines will be up to 499 feet tall and may be Vestas 112 3.45 MW turbines or Vestas 120 2.2 MW turbines. These turbines will be packed into southeastern Schuyler County and northeastern Adair County. This project is currently under construction. The construction company is Blattner Energy, the wind energy company is Terra-Gen and the project was commissioned by Ameren. After construction is complete, Ameren will take control of the project and Terra-Gen, LLC will cease to exist.

As it has been difficult to obtain detailed maps for this project, we created our own. The original map was created in May 2019 and we have updated it continuously since. You can access the map here.

There are multiple objects in the map:

* Blue Line: Mark Twain Transmission Line

* Maroon Line: Original Proposed Mark Twain Transmission Line * Green Line: Route for HPWF Transmission Line

* Green Plugs: HPWF Transmission Line Road Crossings

* Brown Plugs: Circuit Line Road Crossings

* Green Dots: Poles (with heights) for the HPWF Transmission Line

* Black Line: Line of Sight needed for KTVO signal transmission - may be altered by SIX turbines

* Yellow Line: Underground Circuit Lines (these are approximate locations)

* Orange Towers: Temporary MET Towers, will be replaced with turbines

* Red Towers: Permanent MET Towers

* Purple Markers: 2.2 MW Turbines

* Dark Blue Markers: 3.45 MW Turbines

* Black Markers: Original Turbines Locations, have now been moved or are no longer being used

* Light Orange Markers: Labeled as "Alternate" Turbines

* Yellow Caution Signs: New Substations for the HPWF

This is a basic overview of this project.
